When it comes to the ideal home size, sometimes you’re restricted on the physical land footprint but you can always go up! Shortly after buying this Middlesex County home, Rasinski Construction was hired to add a 600 square foot addition and create a primary bedroom and en suite as a second floor. But, like many remodel projects, the original plans expanded and the project grew into a full home remodel, with new seamless flooring throughout. This Matawan NJ
home now includes a beautiful space for the home owners to rest upstairs, a large open floor plan to the modern kitchen for hosting family, 3 updated bathrooms, a convenient home office and a new covered porch for outdoor entertaining.
Demo Work and Obstacles
The owners of this home craved additional space for a master suite with a walk-in closet, powder room, and family room that is now opened to the existing kitchen and dining room. We were able to add value to their home with an expansive 1500 square-foot addition in 5 months’ time. This ranch style home is built on a concrete slab, with all water and drain lines under that slab. With the primary bath addition, kitchen renovation and adding a powder room, we were tasked with breaking up the slab in multiple areas to either connect to, replace or add new lines all together to complete the vision.
Another obstacle faced involved the HVAC unit and duct work in the attic in their ranch style home. We decided to use scissor style floor trusses for the addition (not typical for residential construction), which needed to be tall enough to allow a supply and return duct to pass through. This allowed the existing rooms on each side of the house to still be conditioned.
Like any Rasinski Construction project, all communication with town officials for permit applications or inspections is happily managed by our team to take the stress away from the home owner.
Primary Bedroom and En Suite
The original intension of this Rasinski Construction remodel was to build a peaceful and functional second floor for the owners, which was successfully achieved with stunning results. The large bedroom with high ceilings is complimented with a walk in closet and upstairs laundry room. The sea inspired primary bathroom includes a large soaking tub centered on a featured tile inlay, tiled glass door shower and a floating vanity for more bathroom storage.
Open Floorplan Kitchen and Dining Room
Downstairs, walls were removed or opened up to allow a more open floor plan style between the kitchen, dining and living room space. The kitchen included an accordion style access window allowing snacks and drinks to easily be passed through to the covered attached covered porch.
Two other bathrooms on the first floor received an upgrade with new tile work, vanity and accessories.
New Covered Porch and Deck Space
The home itself also received the Rasinski Construction magic touch with a new face lift in the siding, and covered porch connected to a outside deck. We are a Trex Composite Decking pro, providing upscale details, like additional netting under the flooring to allow for a more bug free experience outside. The new sliding glass door and accordion style access window from the kitchen connects seamlessly with this outdoor oasis.
